A year in the life of Holywell-cum-Needingworth Parish Council
In addition to the meetings of the town council and its associated
committees a number of special events and occasions appear in the
civic diary that is displayed below. These are known as "civic
events" and you can get an explanation of what
happens at these events by using the menu on the left.

What is a civic event?
Basically these are large scale public events attended by the
Mayor and full council wearing their robes and preceded by the
Macebearer clearing the way for them. The Mace today is a symbol of
official status but it is historically derived from a time when the
Mace was a weapon used to physically enforce the will of its holder.
