Welcome to Holywell and Needingworth
The original village of Holywell developed from Roman times onwards as a ring village on the banks of the River Great Ouse at a crossing place to the village of Over. Being slightly off the beaten track additional houses were built where the lane to the village joins with the main road between St Ives and Erith. Because of the additional trade resulting from this new location the number of houses in the new village quickly exceeded that of Holywell and the new daughter village of Needingworth was born. Oldhurst is one of the parishes of the District of Huntingdonshire, whose administrative centre is Huntingdon, the other principle towns being St Ives home of the Chapel on the Bridge, St Neots the largest town in the County of Cambridgeshire and Ramsey site of the former Abbey.
